Ohio Auto Insurance
Required Auto Insurance
There is no NO mandatory auto insurance requirement in Ohio
Minimum Coverage
Although auto insurance is NOT mandatory, should you opt to get liability insurance the minimum coverage is 12.5/25/7.5, which relative to most other state minimum limits is considered low. Therefore, obtaining auto insurance above these minimum amounts is viewed as prudent.
These minimum limits state that car insurance coverage should cover a minimum $12,500 for injury liability for one person in an accident, $25,000 for all injuries in any single accident, and $7,500 for property damage in an accident.
Other Important Things To Know
Although Ohio does not require its drivers to have auto insurance, it does, however, require its drivers to possess a
method that ensures the means to pay for injuries or damages that result from an accident in which you are found negligent.
This assurance is called "proof of financial responsibility". Accordingly, Ohio motorists must keep "proof of financial
responsibility" (i.e. an insurance card or insurance policy) in their vehicles at all times. The driver must also be
prepared to present this “proof of financial responsibility” to law enforcement personnel when requested.
